The Rockman 500 Power Amplifier sold only w/Head Case. It was made
by Carver Inc. model number PM-175. SR&D made a few modifications
to the amp including a limiting circuit and a switchable Eq circuit
that boosts the high and lows to mimic a full-range speaker when using
normal guitar speakers. Also direct output jacks were mounted on the
rear for stage use. SR&D hand dated these units
with a felt marker under the removeable top (inside) at the time they
modified the Amps. Power output 250 watt stereo into 4 ohms; 185 watt
stereo into 8 ohms.
FEATURES and FUNCTIONS:
-
POWER ON/OFF - This switch powers up the amplifier with a "slow start-up"
eliminating a turn-on current surge.
-
POWER LED - Upon start-up, the lit green LED indicates the amplifier is
ready for operation.
-
SIGNAL LED - The signal LED indicates the presence of audio greater than 100
mW at the output of either the left or right channel. This is beneficial in system
check out and monitoring.
-
CLIP LED - The amber Clip LED will flash at the point of clipping for either
right or left channel. When the Clip LED flashes it indicates that the headroom of
the amplifier has been exhausted.
-
PROTECT LED - If the Protect LED is brightly lit, then the amplifier is
either being driven into a short-circuited load or being driven with excessive high
frequency (non-musical) signals. The Protect LED will go out if the fault
condition is removed or corrected.
If the Protect LED is dimly lit for more than a few seconds, then a fault
condition has occurred within the amplifier. It indicates that the power supplies have
been automatically limited to an extremely low output level. This prevents the
power supply or amplifier failure from damaging the loud speakers.
-
LEVEL CONTROLS - The Input Level Controls exist for each channel to
progressively reduce the amplifier's input sensitivity. Turn fully clockwise for maximum
sensitivity. Each control has eleven detents for precise adjustment between channels. The
controls also allow for easy return to predetermined settings with minimum error.
-
To drive both sides of the ROCKMAN 500 STEREO AMPLIFIER with a mono input
signal, use a normal "Y" cord to split the input signal to the left and right power
amp inputs
Stage Use
Prolific use on the BoSToN stage.
All stacks are monitored using the Rockman 500.
Collectability
A rare Rockman collectable that has high demand.
Although it was only sold with the Rockman Headcase, it is frequently
found alone. A good strong amp that does not get too hot.
