This is a partial listing of Boston's actual touring setup from the "Livin' For You" and "Greatest Hits" tours. Although Boston's touring racks appear to be bewildering at first, it's important to remember that the stacks of Rockman gear on stage is used by nearly every member of the band. So what one is looking at is not one persons (Tom Scholz's) setup, but 5 guitarists and several keyboard and organ setups. Also, to ensure that the live performance will go off without a hitch, each member has a duplicate setup as backup. Thus, when broken down for each members primary setup, the Boston Stage is not as complex as it first appears.
Rack "A" on the left side of the stage is a 35 space rack with a 10 space rack stacked on top and is used for keyboards, organs and vocals. The remaining racks ("B" through "I") were the 5 rackspace "Rockman Modular Amplifier" headcases ("heads") that Scholz Research and Development (SR&D) used to sell. These were used for the guitars and bass and were divided between the (facing towards) left and right sides of the stage. Tom Scholz uses Racks "B" and "C", Fran Cosmo uses the top heads in Racks "D" and "E", and Brad Delp uses the bottom heads in Racks "D" and "E". Also, Tom Scholz uses a Rockman Sustainor, Rockman Instrument Equalizer and Rockman Stereo Chorus/Delay in the bottom head of Rack "D" for his acoustic guitar. David Sikes uses Racks "F" and "G" for his bass rig, and Gary Pihl uses Racks "H" and "I" (Racks "F" through "I" are NOT shown in this image).
